Monday Musings with Rachelle
Here’s another great inspirational quote that gives me something to think about. How about you?
Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect.

Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.
–Harper Lee
Isn’t that quote phenomenal and such an inspirational thought? Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird, an all-time classic and one of my favorites!

I love sweet and heartwarming inspirational thoughts. This story really touched my heart. Are we remembering those who serve us?
Always remember those who serve.
In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.
“How much is an ice cream sundae?” he asked.
“Fifty cents,” replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it.
“Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?” he inquired.
By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient..
“Thirty-five cents,” she brusquely replied.
The little boy again counted his coins.
“I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he said.
The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies.
You see, he couldn’t have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.

Susan Dayley is my guest today and she has a wonderful inspirational thought to share:
“When you have come to the edge
Of all light that you know
And are about to drop off into the darkness
Of the unknown,
Faith is knowing
One of two things will happen:
There will be something solid to stand on or
You will be taught to fly.”
–Patrick Overton
Susan says, “I have known the fear of moving forward during dark times, and I have known what it is to be lifted up and cast forward to fly. I have come to know that my Divine Father is always there to lift and to save.”
Thank you, Susan. I love the idea behind that sentiment, it does help to have faith that we are not alone.

“If you fall, fall forward.”
There are a few versions of this inspirational quote, but this one’s attributed to “Wild Bill” Donovan. He’s the man that suggested, developed, and headed the US Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the WWII-era precursor to the CIA.
I like the idea behind it: yes, you may make some mistakes. You might fail. But learn from it, and it won’t be a complete waste. This applies to just about everyone. It certainly applied to the men and women of OSS. And it applies to writers. Most writers, including me, have been rejected before—by agents, by publishers, by readers. That can seem like failure, but I think it’s better to look at it as an opportunity to do something different, improve your abilities, and then try again. Use your little falls (and the big ones too) to learn something, so that moving forward, you’re a better writer, and a better person.
Falling down hurts, but if you fall forward, sometimes it’s worth it.

Here’s another great inspirational thought for your Monday! This quote is helpful for those of us who expect perfection from ourselves.
If everything were perfect in this life, we would never learn anything new. We would not be able to elevate our spirits through the events that happen to us.
–Lynn V. Andrews
This thought is a great reminder for me that nothing will ever be perfect. I’m kind of a Type A personality, so that’s hard to accept, but when I can roll with the punches it opens up my eyes to the learning that is going on during imperfection.
