Book Thoughts by Rachelle
I’m grateful for the opportunity I have to review an outstanding new piece of nonfiction by Heather B. Moore. Women of the Book of Mormon: Insights and Inspirations
This is a book for those who, like me, belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. First of all, I loved the cover of this book. The artwork on the cover and throughout is stunning and the artists renditions of these amazing women told a story of their own.
Heather Moore is a fantastic writer and she has won several awards for her novels. Everything I’ve read of hers has been incredible. She knows the Book of Mormon and has a wonderful talent of helping us, as readers, to get to know the characters better. In Women of the Book of Mormon, she highlights the women mentioned or featured in the Book of Mormon. Through twelve chapters, she focuses on character traits, backgrounds, family and culture, specific faith building experiences of these women, their trials, and helps us to see who they really are.
She explores the rise and fall of the Nephite and Lamanite civilizations and how these circumstances would have affected the women living at the time. As I read this book, I recognized on a deeper level that these women were real people, living life and trying to survive just like me. They all faced trials, some chose the right path and others did not. The chapters focus on each of the following 12 women or groups of women:
1: Sariah
2: Eve
3: Mary
4: Sarah
5: Twenty-four Lamanaite Daughters
6: Queen of King Lamoni
7: Abish
8: Queen of King Lamoni’s Father
9: Isabel
10: Mothers o the Two-Thousand Stripling Warriors
11: Daughter of Jared
12: Wife of Mormon
I love the Book of Mormon and every time I study it, I am amazed again at how much it offers to me, to help me TODAY in this state of the world. Heather’s testimony of the gospel echoes the many examples of the women in the Book of Mormon.
For women, I encourage you to pick up a copy of this beautiful book and learn more about your divine heritage as a woman. For men, I encourage you to read this book and revisit the importance of women through the ages of the world and the marvelous gifts that God has given us as we strive to be righteous as men and women.
This would be a perfect gift for Mother’s Day, so go pick up your copy now.
