Smarter Than a Monster is awesome! If you don’t believe me, you can ask my 5 year old who has insisted that I read this book every night for the past 3 weeks. Yep, 3 weeks guys, that is a long time and he still loves it! That is also a testament to the parent reading the book because normally after week 2 I hide the book and suggest another one for our bedtime reading. The illustrations in this book are so colorful and fun. My little guy loves the small details and hidden monsters. I like the message about monsters and especially the pathetic monster under the bed! I also read this book to my other kids and even saw my teenager reading it and smiling. It’s great for all ages of kids and monsters. Read it!
Here’s more about the book:
No monster wants you to read this book. The more you know about monsters, the more you will know how to defeat them.
Little kids have big fears, which they often imagine to be scary creatures, like monsters. But this book helps explain how knowing “Monster Facts” can help kids outwit them.
Want to avoid monsters?
Fact: Monsters love dirt and grime, so when faced with two kids, the monster will choose the dirty one every time.
And if toys and clothes are all over the floor, you may get ambushed by a mess-loving monster.
Survival Tip: Take baths and keep your room clean.
Smarter Than a Monster will arm young readers with practical advice in this innovative and imaginative parenting tool that teaches common sense and positive and healthy habits.

Any coward can fight a battle when he’s sure of winning; but give me the man who has the pluck to fight when he’s sure of losing.
–George Eliot
I’m loving how this quote can relate to so many areas of my life–writing, parenting–there are many battles and some we will lose, but we must keep fighting!

Victoria’s Promise is a contemporary Christian fiction, but it’s also a beautiful romantic comedy that is sure to delight any fan of clean and wholesome romance. It’s a Bachelor romance! If you’re a fan of The Bachelor, or even The Bachelorette, you’ll enjoy this clean read.
Julie Wright is an excellent author and this book delivers on all of its promises. Wright captures the voice of her character Tori in such a way that she comes to life and you’ll feel as if you know her and definitely be rooting for her!
This novel captured my attention from the very beginning. I love the treatment of the “reality TV” shows and how actual reality plays out so much differently. This isn’t just a fluffy romance–Tori deals with problems and you can watch the strength of her character in action as she faces hard decisions about several aspects of her life.
There are so many feel-good, laugh-out-loud, and grit your teeth scenes in this book. Read Victoria’s Promise if you’re in the mood to be delighted by an author who knows how to weave an engaging tale.
Here’s more about the book:
A luxurious mansion. Thirty stunning bachelorettes. One very eligible bachelor. All of the ingredients are in place for a successful reality dating show, and behind the scenes, Tori Winters is set to pull the romantic strings as assistant director of Vows. Despite her distaste for public exhibitions of love—which spelled the death of her last relationship—Tori intends to give the public exactly what they want: scintillating footage of a bevvy of beauties vying for the attention of Christopher Caine. But Chris, a consummate Southern gentleman and the star of Vows, seems almost too good to be true—and soon, even Tori finds herself falling under his spell. Despite legal obligations to avoid fraternizing with the talent, it’s clear her feelings are anything but unrequited. With the support of her friends in the Newport Ladies Book Club, Tori must make a life-altering decision: is she willing to jeopardize all she’s worked for in order to embrace her own fairy-tale ending?

I’m a fan of Heather Moore’s books and novellas. I’ve read almost all of them and appreciate her writing style more with each story I’ve read. She has been busy lately!
Ruby’s Secret is part of a fantastic collection of stories in the Newport Ladies Book Club. Four stellar authors worked together to weave the tales of the women in this book club.
I think that I need to visit Greece someday. I really enjoyed this story. There was so much emotion in Ruby’s secret, in the life she’s lived and the choices she has to make. It was interesting for me to read this novel from an older woman’s perspective. Heather Moore did a great job of infusing her character with a realistic voice and true passions for the circumstances. I also loved how the books the club read were an integral part of the plot and worked so well with the story line. I finally pushed order on my wish list for this particular book, The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, which is one of the books read by the Newport Ladies Book Club.
Here’s more about the book:
At age sixty-two, life is finally beginning for newly widowed Ruby Crenshaw. Her son is grown and gone, and after long years spent in the role of loyal wife to her charming but unfaithful husband, she’s ready to live the life she’s always dreamed of. Her resolve is firm: she’ll never make the mistake of giving her heart to another man.
The first step in Ruby’s quest for a carefree lifestyle was to create the Newport Ladies Book Club, an unlikely gathering of women who have been her haven. Now she’s ready to take her newfound independence a step further—along with her friends from the local senior center, Ruby is jetting off on a much-needed Greece adventure. What she isn’t prepared for is Gabriel—the group’s tour guide—a native Greek and a true gentleman. His unquestionable charm is hard to resist. But resist she must—because no matter their growing attraction, Ruby is not about to fall for charming again!
